Troubleshooting
All my notes and folders are gone
Some cases can be undone. Please do nothing else first
Do not delete or reinstall the app. Do not restore a backup over the top either. This may well be a state that can be undone, and those actions can lose it for good. Please read this first.
This is for when notes and folders are empty altogether, not when a few are missing. If it is only a few, My notes aren't showing is the better fit.
Some cases can be undone
Your records are on this device and in your iCloud. If they are still in iCloud, they can be downloaded again.
Which way out you take depends on the cause. See which one below fits.
1. If you turned HyFlow off in iCloud
Turning HyFlow off under Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Saved to iCloud > See All makes the notes on this device disappear. Unlike Apple's own apps, that screen gives no warning, so it is easily missed.
Turn it back on in the same place. The notes held in iCloud come back down to the device.
Turn on Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Saved to iCloud > See All > HyFlow.
- 1Open
Settings, tap the iCloud status line, and leave sync status open. While that screen is up the display will not turn off on its own, so syncing can keep going - 2Plug in the charger and connect to Wi-Fi
- 3Turn
Low Power Modeoff
If that screen shows something you need to fix yourself, start with that. Account checks and full storage will not move a single item no matter how long you leave it open, and the display turns off as usual in that case.
It does not have to finish in one go. Opening it now and then chips away at the queue.
This works without a backup file. It is worth trying before restoring from a backup. Do not switch it off and on because it feels slow, though. What was downloading starts over, and you can end up with two copies of the same note.
2. If you tapped Delete Data under storage
This is when HyFlow was removed from the Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Storage list. If you went in to tidy up after a message about iCloud storage being full, this is the likely one.
In this case the iCloud copy is gone too, so there is nothing to come back down. The screen suggests it only removes what is in iCloud, but the notes on this device go with it.
The remaining way is restoring from a backup file. Check Settings > Backup & Restore for a backup you made earlier. If you moved one to the Files app or a computer, pick it with Restore from Another File….
3. If the Apple Account changed or was signed out
When the signed-in account changes — inheriting a device, or sorting out family accounts — the records switch to the ones belonging to that account. The old ones are still on the original account.
Signing back in with the Apple Account you were using brings them back. It is like a first sign-in on a new device, so downloading everything takes time.
- 1Open
Settings, tap the iCloud status line, and leave sync status open. While that screen is up the display will not turn off on its own, so syncing can keep going - 2Plug in the charger and connect to Wi-Fi
- 3Turn
Low Power Modeoff

It does not have to finish in one go. Opening it now and then chips away at the queue.
Do not sign out and in repeatedly because it feels slow. What was downloading starts over, and you can end up with two copies of the same note. Sign in once and leave it to get on with it.
Recent records that had not made it up to iCloud before the account changed do not come back. Everything else fills in over time.
4. If settings and anniversaries were reset too
If the app settings and anniversaries are back to their initial state as well as the notes, the app was removed and reinstalled. This happens when iOS clears apps to free up device storage.
Here too, if the records are still in iCloud they come back down.
- 1Open
Settings, tap the iCloud status line, and leave sync status open. While that screen is up the display will not turn off on its own, so syncing can keep going - 2Plug in the charger and connect to Wi-Fi
- 3Turn

It does not have to finish in one go. Opening it now and then chips away at the queue.
If Offload Unused Apps is on under Settings > General > iPhone Storage, apps can be cleared on their own. Turning it off stops it happening again.
If you are not sure which it is
Do not act on a guess — tell us first. The wrong move makes recoverable things hard to recover.
Tell us through Contact Support below and we will check what state it is in. These make it much quicker if you can include them.
- 1Which screen you were on and what you tapped. If you were in iCloud settings, say so
- 2When it started. Right after an update, or after clearing iCloud storage
- 3Whether the app got smaller. The figure under
Settings > General > iPhone Storage > HyFlow
We do not keep your records on our servers, so we cannot retrieve them for you. That is why the state your device is in right now matters. Stopping and telling us is the surest thing.
